CAMBRIDGE CONSULTING

THE CHALLENGE
Cambridge Consulting, a national management consulting firm, came to us for a Web site makeover. Their existing site wasn't reaching all of their identified audiences, and user feedback reported that the site was "muddled", indicating the need to strengthen the usability, streamline the content, and reinforce the company's message. The site would need to grow as the company expanded their areas of expertise.

Additionally, Cambridge Consulting asked us to develop a smooth, intuitive user interface between the Web site and their new project management solution—a proprietary, Web-based application that provides a centralized, always-available source of information about new projects, consultant availability, and project status.

THE SOLUTION
The existing site excluded one of Cambridge's important audience groups, so I refocused the hierarchy to contain information of general interest, as well as separate areas for the target audiences. Since we knew that each audience would be curious about the other, I kept navigation options simple and clear, providing easy access to all areas, and made sure to design a scalable architecture that would grow with the company. I worked with Cambridge's third party content provider and third-party application developer to create a consistent, humanizing interface throughout the whole project.

Following the successful launch of this project, Cambridge Consulting returned to us to expand their Portfolio with a series of Flash-based Case Studies, which fit seamlessly into the existing architecture.

PROJECT DELIVERABLES

go see the flowchart

Flowcharts indicate the user's path to areas and resources in the site. It grows out of the discovery phase, and typically begins as a conceptual model, or overview flow, which is then expanded to eventually indicate all pages and interactivity. A wireframe is the skeleton of the page layout. Generally NOT to scale, and frequently scribbled on a napkin or a whiteboard, wireframes are usually internal documents developed with the designers. Functionality may or may not be indicated, depending on the needs of the project. Click on the image to see this project's wireframe.
