CENTURY THEATRES

THE CHALLENGE
Century Theatres, the largest, privately-held theater chain, required a redesigned Web site to reflect their updated corporate brand. Their motto is "the best seat for the 21st century," and they wanted that seamless experience incorporated into the Web site.

They also wanted new functionality built into the Web site, with the goal of becoming the best place for movie times and information, and to cut the considerable expense of newspaper ads in their local outlets.

THE SOLUTION
I expanded the existing architecture to include movie posters, synopses, and links to trailers, and redeveloped the content to improve information retrieval to eliminate excessive scrolling. I collaborated with the team to develop a search module for finding movies and/or movie theaters and add dynamic features like movie end times and new theater info.

We added personalization features, such as weekly emailed movie showtimes based on user preferences, discount coupons, pre-populated feedback forms, and a customizable home page that allows users to immediately see what's playing at their favorite local Century theaters. I worked with the programming team to monitor implementation and resolve issues as needed.

We built a prototype for a user test, which helped to refine the user registration process and adjust some of the navigation. Meanwhile, the visual designers utilized elements from Century's stunning art-deco print collateral that enhanced and reflected the company's place in the movie entertainment field. We also developed a Web-based administration module, enabling the client to more efficiently manage the site. The new site has received positive feedback from moviegoers.

PROJECT DELIVERABLES

go see the flowchart

Flowcharts indicate the user's path to areas and resources in the site. It grows out of the discovery phase, and typically begins as a conceptual model, or overview flow, which is then expanded to eventually indicate all pages and interactivity. A wireframe is the skeleton of the page layout. Generally NOT to scale, and frequently scribbled on a napkin or a whiteboard, wireframes are usually internal documents developed with the designers. Functionality may or may not be indicated, depending on the needs of the project. Click on the image to see this project's wireframes.
